IT informa connects legacy store infrastructure to cloud for major international retailer
Large-scale retail operations run on systems that have been in production for decades. Connecting those systems to modern cloud architecture without disrupting what they do requires a purpose-built integration layer.
IT informa’s Lukas Svensson has worked as Software Engineer at a major international retailer since December 2021, within the team responsible for the integration layer connecting the organisation’s store management system to cloud-based consumers across its global network. The legacy system spans more than 500 published methods across more than 50 services, developed over 30 years. Lukas designs and builds REST APIs through which cloud systems can access inventory data and automation capabilities without requiring direct access to the underlying legacy infrastructure. He also manages system configurations using jsonnet and libsonnet, writes unit tests in C++ and builds monitoring dashboards and alerts in Splunk and Grafana to track system health and reliability.
The integration layer has enabled the retailer’s global cloud inventory and warehouse automation programmes to operate on live data from the store management system.
