IT informa builds curated listing capability into AI-powered product discovery engine

Product discovery engines decide what customers see. When that logic runs automatically, the teams behind retail campaigns need controls that let them act on it, not just observe it.

IT informa’s Joakim Svensson joined a provider of search and recommendation technology for e-commerce as Senior Full Stack Engineer in January 2023, working within the team responsible for the administrative application used to configure the company’s AI-driven search and recommendation engine for e-retailers. As the team’s first dedicated backend developer, Joakim built core backend functionality while contributing to the frontend, keeping both ends of the stack aligned as the product evolved.

His main contribution has been developing functionality that allows merchandisers to manually override the product listings generated by the engine. Rather than accepting what it surfaces algorithmically, users can now build curated lists aligned with specific campaigns, seasonal priorities or promotional narratives. The capability has been adopted by multiple clients and is regarded as a differentiator for the product going forward.
