IT informa modernises messaging infrastructure for major international retailer’s store integration platform

Store operations depend on reliable, real-time communication between systems. When that messaging layer runs on an outdated protocol, upgrading it requires more than a version change: the client that handles the communication has to be rebuilt from the ground up.

IT informa’s Ola Mattsson has worked as Backend Developer within the integration platform at a major international retailer since 2024, contributing to the gateway solution that connects the organisation’s core store management system with internal and external systems. His work has focused on the messaging infrastructure that keeps those systems in communication across distributed environments.

A central contribution has been the upgrade of the platform’s MQTT-based messaging from version 3 to version 5, which required a complete rewrite of the client implementation. The upgrade modernised the communication layer, improved system robustness and enabled more reliable integration with the messaging brokers the platform depends on. Ola has also designed REST APIs for system state and error handling, and introduced Redis-based solutions for state and data management, strengthening the platform’s observability and monitoring capabilities.
